Webelos Marshmallow Catapult

Matthew is a Webelos (4th & 5th graders) Cub Scout this year. The activity badges are more in depth than rank advancement work from previous work. He recently worked on his Engineer Activity Badge at camp and enjoyed it so much that he has been building items at home also.

The requirements were two required ones and then to choose four out of eight other choices. The ones he did were (in my shortened version):

1. Talk to an engineer about the different occupations in engineering.
2. Draw a floor plan of your home.
3. Tell about how electricity is generated and then gets to your home.
4. Construct a simple working electrical circuit using a flashlight battery, a switch, and a light.
5. Make a simple crane using a block and tackle.
6. Build a catapult.

After he came home from camp Matt and Alex built a marshmallow catapult and have had a great time since improving upon it and seeing what else they would catapult and how far items will go! Pictures for your viewing pleasure!

Matthew’s 9th Birthday!!!

For Matthew’s 9th Birthday he asked to go bowling. We have a nice bowling alley right here on base so that made it easy. Later I told him he could invite his buddies.

He is with these boys all. the. time. Three live right by our house and one lives on the next street over and all the boys are in Cub Scouts together. The one on the right end? His dad is Matt’s den leader. These are great boys. Since we had to have neighbors…and they all are going to have children…these are ones that I’m glad Matt has as friends. As I type this they are all in Matt’s bedroom playing with his Legos.

Matt wanted a Star Wars theme for his birthday. Nevermind that he’s never seen the movies. I promise to remedy that sometime in the future. I’m actually not sure if he knows there is a movie. He just likes the action figures!

I love my boy, my first son. He has the best dimples. He’s kind-hearted, gentle, and compassionate. He’s a good friend, a good brother. I’m so glad God gave him to me!

He had a great time. The other families were there also and it was a good time!! He got lots of new Legos, a huge tackle box to store them in, and also some fun airplanes.

Happy 9th Birthday, Matthew James! May your 10th come much slower!
