38th Birthday Bash

That would be me. Thirty-eight. It’s so close to FORTY! This happened in August so I’ve come to terms with it now, but at first I just could not fathom that I, me, Melissa, was in her late 30′s!

Roy was in the field at the time, so I had some friends and their children over and we had a lovely afternoon/evening. My friend Beth arranged for a lady to come and give us all pedicures. We drank wine, played games, had a yummy Mexican feast, and then ate The Best Cake Ever. I’m so thankful for the friends I’ve made here! They spoiled me rotten.

I did make my own cake. But my children wanted to help. I only got a picture of Leah!

And here is a very blurry picture of me before I blow out all 38 candles!

Hannah Turns 4!

Hannah turned 4 today. She reminded me as soon as she got out of bed. “Mama, you said when I got up in the morning I’d be 4. I’m up!”

At church, she got to go to the front and put 4 pennies into the church bank and then the congregation sang Happy Birthday to her. She giggled and smiled so much!

Next Saturday we’re going bowling with some family friends who also have little girls. Should be a grand time!

Hannah at birth.

A couple weeks later.

At one year.

Two years old and a big sister.

Three years old. I had just cut bangs in because she had taken scissors to her hair. Then we let them grow..and grow.. and grow…

Four years old. And she cut her hair again about a month ago! So now we’re having to grow them out again!

Happy 4th Birthday, Hannah!! I look forward to eating your princess cake on Saturday!

Matthew’s 9th Birthday!!!

For Matthew’s 9th Birthday he asked to go bowling. We have a nice bowling alley right here on base so that made it easy. Later I told him he could invite his buddies.

He is with these boys all. the. time. Three live right by our house and one lives on the next street over and all the boys are in Cub Scouts together. The one on the right end? His dad is Matt’s den leader. These are great boys. Since we had to have neighbors…and they all are going to have children…these are ones that I’m glad Matt has as friends. As I type this they are all in Matt’s bedroom playing with his Legos.

Matt wanted a Star Wars theme for his birthday. Nevermind that he’s never seen the movies. I promise to remedy that sometime in the future. I’m actually not sure if he knows there is a movie. He just likes the action figures!

I love my boy, my first son. He has the best dimples. He’s kind-hearted, gentle, and compassionate. He’s a good friend, a good brother. I’m so glad God gave him to me!

He had a great time. The other families were there also and it was a good time!! He got lots of new Legos, a huge tackle box to store them in, and also some fun airplanes.

Happy 9th Birthday, Matthew James! May your 10th come much slower!

Alex Turns 5

I shared yesterday that I had missed a few major happenings in my hiatus from blogging.  I’m going to catch you up on a few.  In August, Alexander Winslow turned FIVE!

When I asked him what he wanted for his birthday, his response was “More Matchbox CARS!!!”  I made sure to put the cars on his cake also.  This was the 2nd .. or maybe 3rd .. time he has CARS (the movie) as his theme.

We bought a pre-made cake, then removed some of the decorative icing, used chocolate frosting to make the road, and put the cars on.

Samantha's 11th Birthday

Sam’s birthday was in August.  I took a hiatus from blogging and so missed sharing many events on here.  I was looking back through some pictures and came across this:

Isn’t that cute??  It was Sam’s idea to make a scrapbook picture to use as her invitations.  We printed them at a 1-hour service here in town, and then hand delivered them to her potential guests.

Once her guests arrived we headed out to a nail salon in town where all the girls received pedicures.  It was fun watching them pick out their colors.  Then we headed home for cake and ice cream and presents.  It was a delightful afternoon!
