Twentynine (29) Palms Homeschool Group
Posted By Melissa on July 19, 2010
It’s hard to believe we’re starting our 10th year of homeschooling!! I’ll be schooling grades 7, 4, 1, and PreK this year as well as managing the busy 2 year-old.
We are part of Growing Palms Homeschool Group here in 29 Palms. I found the group before we even moved here and went to a park day the first week we lived here! I have made such wonderful friends through the group and really enjoy all the activities we’ve done.
We meet each week on Friday at a local park. The kids play, the moms chat. It’s been a great time for both the kids and I. It’s allowed me time to get to know other moms. We talk about anything and everything. The children play and make friends and it also gets them outside for a few hours!
Once a month or so (but hopefully twice a month this upcoming year) we go on field trips as a group. This past year some of the places we went were to Riley’s Farm, the post office, fire station, McCallum Theatre, Air Museum, and more.
A member of our group sponsored a Science Fair and we have a Geography Fair upcoming. Each month we do a Mom’s Night Out to one of our local restaurants.
What I love about our group is that everyone brings their ideas to the table! We all use different curriculum, we come from different backgrounds, but when it comes to planning things for our children, different people step in and make things happen. I’m so thankful to be a part of Growing Palms and the kids and I are looking forward to this new school year!

Sounds fun!
I just started a homeschool group/co-op at my church… I’m excited!
I was beginning to wonder if you were taking the summer off! LOL! I’m REALLY looking forward to the next school year, I can hardly stand it!!!!
I’m not a home school-er and my baby of 5 will graduate this year, but I just wanted to say thank you to your family, for their service…my husband is retired Air Force. Reading about you going to the park, brought back memories of days spent in parks with kids and women friends…I’m here with family, now, and love it…starting on the Grandma years (grin), but those days hold a nostalgic sweetness to them, us women, members of a club of sorts..a club.wrought from raising kids, on our own, away from our families, in foreign lands…so thank you, Lezlee
Love the pics of base housing and great to know about the home schooling group. We will be moving to 29Palms shortly! We have 5 kids and recently found out that the housing wait is 5+ months for a 4 bedroom ~ (very nervous, not been able to find much for rent in town thats large enough for our family and within budget)! Hopefully, something opens up!
This is our second yr of home schooling and have a 5th, 3rd, 1st and P-Ker. Deff. will look more at the home schooling group. We’ve always had friends to take little ones while another has a Dr’s appt ~ another concern!! Looking forward to getting this move underway and settling in wherever our new home may be!
