The Best of WFMW

Posted By on March 2, 2010

Each week I go through 300 or so Works for Me Wednesday (WFMW) posts. Okay, last week was 275. I started to write a ranting post about all the links that are not really “Works for Me” posts, but well, if you’re reading this from WFMW, then you already know this.

Instead I’d like to share with you what I thought the best of the best were from last week. I did enjoy many other posts, but felt (for me) that these were the ones I wanted to remember. And that I wanted to share with those who read my blog that do not participate in WFMW.

In no particular order….

Sunblock for Double Stroller
Nikki is seriously one smart mama!! WAy to go, Nikki!! Love your use of the crib sheet.

Fighting for your marriage

Snow in the Bathtub
So fun!!!! Makes me wish we had snow here.

Organized Travel Tips
Wish I’d thought of the laundry basket idea!

Potty Training Tips
What really worked for one mom!

Lunch tray
Fabulous idea!! We don’t eat in front of the tv (it’s in my bedroom) but I thought others would really love this idea!!

Natural Pain Relief
Using arnica for pain relief! I need to get some of this.

A Great Way to Use an Orange Peeler!
Great tip. Thank you!!!

Storing Wrapping Paper
Ingenious idea!!

Using a Steamer
This mom proves that infomercials don’t always lie. I need me one!

How to make perfect hamburger patties
This looks so easy!

Beautiful Bread
Such a simple tip and one I always forget!!

Over the door shoe organizer uses
We have one in the girls bedroom that holds socks, underwear, tights, etc. I should get one for the laundry room for cables and such. Fabulous!

The Furminator
We don’t have a dog, but I thought dog owners might like this handy item!

Washing Shower Curtains
This is one tip that I already do, but in case you didn’t know about it, it is here! Wash your shower curtains. It’s easy!

Changing art into … art!
This is a great idea!! She explains how to take your children’s “art” and turn them into painting for your walls.

This mom is asking for help:
What works for having your children do chores?
Head over and leave her a comment to help her out! I like chore packs.

I will comment on this one thing that bothers me. If you’re participating in a blog link up, you should link back to the host. I was surprised by how many people do not do this on WFMW. Also, I thought it was kind of weird how many people used their one blog post to link up to like 20 or 50 different link ups. Anyway. No more ranting. I’m done.

I really enjoyed saving the links this time. The last few weeks I jotted little notes but didn’t want to “steal” someone else’s idea to share with you. So linking up to their tips works for me. I get to share. You get some info. And the information is saved for me also.

If you’d like to participate or see more of what works for others, head over to Rocks in my Dryer.

Thanks for linking to my post! I agree, you should link back to the hostess.

  2. Thanks for the shout out! I appreciate it so much. Oh, and I totally agree with you on all points. It always surprises me about the number of folks who link to 4 or 5 different carnivals.

  3. Nikki says:

I checked out all of these. (Well, except the first since I wrote it. lol) Awesome tips!

And it bugs me too when people put their advertisements or completely random and in no way related to WFMW posts on the mr. Linky.

I do link back to the host, unless I forget. And then I go back and add the link.

One thing I am guilty of is submitting it in multiple carnivals. I just started doing that because I was invited to by someone starting up her own carnival. Then I found another one also starting up and thought I’d help it out by adding to her numbers.

Anyways, I like what you’ve done with your blog. It looks GREAT!

  4. MarytheKay says:

Aaaahhh!!! As I am a brand-new blogger, this is my FIRST-EVER link!!! Thanks so much! :-) Just makes a girl squeal a little. Sorry about that…now I’ll be all calm and professional-blogger-like. Ha!

    • Melissa says:

LOL You don’t have to professional-like here! Glad to be of service to you! I loved your tip. We’re always moving clothes from one suitcase to another and back in order to use one suitcase as a laundry “basket.” LOL I’ll be taking an actual one next time!

  5. Melinda says:

Thanks for compiling all of these links! I rarely look through all the WFMW posts just because it’s a lot of posts to wade through…so I appreciate you compiling the best posts in one place.

  6. TidyMom says:

I think this post was great!! I love the idea of posting a summary of great tips!!

I have several of the same gripes you do…..my biggest being how many people link up to a party, but don’t link back.

  7. Thanks so much for the link up. I appreciate it.
I think compiling what you think are the best links is a great idea. For your own records as much as for the rest of us. Thanks for giving us this list.

  8. Kelly says:

Do you seriously look through every single link? Where do you find the time for that? Wow.
I am going to come back and look at these later, several of them look like they will be great tips for me.

    • Melissa says:

Kelly, I do open all of them. I do them in bunches of 40 or 50. I could look at the description and go off of that, but I think I find it easier to just open them all. I quickly go through them, closing recipes and articles. Those are not “Works for Me” items, in my opinion. But I”m not the host of the link up. ;) Then I skim and if it looks interesting, I read more closely. I comment on a lot of those also.

      • Kelly says:

It sounds like you have a good system…I just know the one week I tried to read them all it took way more time than I had available. Thanks for doing all the “work” to pick some of the best…I enjoyed several of these. (now answer the comment I left to you on my blog…you can email or facebook it if you’d rather) oh yeah, please ;-)

  9. Thank you so much for linking to my tip! :) I loved the snow in the bathtub one, too…i need to go back and read all of the others. I used to read ALL of the WFMW tips, but, like you, I noticed a lot of them weren’t tips. Maybe the good ones need to be highlighted *actual tip!* :) I know there are lots of good ones out there!!!

  10. Wow this is a GREAT LIST!! :) Thank you for sharing the highlights!!

I always try to visit at least 10 other blogs when I add my link to a carnival —
but wow — you went through 275!!! You ROCK!!

I too, link my posts to several carnivals… and I personally feel that if you link up your post – you need to surf the links… If people want to link up to several parties that’s fine – as long as they surf other entries…. No one likes a greedy blogger!!

oh and I always try to surf back through my comments — That is why it is always important to leave your correct URL!! :)

    • Melissa says:

10 is a great idea. I link up to a couple recipe ones and then I look and look and always wonder where to stop. I really don’t have time to do open THAT many links. LOL I should just give myself a # to look at and end there. And YES, bloggers can be a greedy bunch…like with commenting! LOL

  11. What a great idea for a post. There’s always some awesome tips in WFMW, but with the amount I know I miss some. So it’s great that you compiled them here:) And thanks so much to include mine … I feel honored out of that many!! :)

  12. mamabeck says:

Thanks for the links, Melissa! I found a few that will help us here!

  13. Dawn says:

That post was so Melissa. :)

I used to to WFMW but I couldn’t think up creative things I do each week because I’m just not that creative. LOL

I’m checking out a few of the sites you linked though – thanks for going through and doing the grunt work for the benefit of your readers. :D

  14. Ginger says:

This whole best of idea is great! Love the orange peeler!

  15. Eos Mom says:

I love that you’ve compiled the best links–I found several clever ones on your list I hadn’t noticed last week (I never have time to visit them all)–great idea! Thanks!

  16. Renee says:

    This is so awesome!

I have really missed you! I am so enjoying your Blog. :o )

  17. Kim says:
