The Weirdest of WFMW
Posted By Melissa on March 16, 2010
So as I was going through the posts for this past week’s WFMW, I was closing blogs that I knew wouldn’t work for me. Some are WEIRD…but really, the more I thought about it, I thought, these weird things WORK for these people! So I decided to do a separate post. A post of the things I’ll probably never, ever do, but might work for you!
And honestly, they’re not all weird.
They just are not things that I would do for one reason or another. I don’t want anyone to feel bad that I’ve include you here! I wanted a catchy title…and I know that for some people these tips will be great ones!
Video Game like pick up game for kids
We don’t play video games so my kids wouldn’t get this. But maybe yours would!
Tons of uses for freezer paper!
I put this over here because I’ll either a. never remember to buy freezer paper or b. not use it once I bought it because I wouldn’t remember why I bought it!
Measuring sticky ingredients
I hate the spray stuff. It’s gross.
Cooking meat in the microwave
Okay. I was gagging just reading this. But maybe it would work for you!
Shooting Dogs
I don’t have a dog (and BETH, I don’t plan on having one anytime soon). But here you go. My friend Beth uses a spray bottle of water.
Using powdered eggs
Another one I was gagging over, HOWEVER, I have to say her tip to use this while camping, had me re-thinking my position. Sort of. I don’t know. No. I don’t think I could.
Lazy Veggie Prep
I just cannot condone microwave usage for vegetables…but it’s a good idea at the same time!
Fast and Easy Shoe Polish
How do you think of these things?? Interesting.
Cellulite Stories
Really? Do you read these? They are WEIRD! LOL Why do I still open it every week???
Oatmeal
Oatmeal. Gross. Boxed oatmeal. Even grosser. If you’re going to eat it at least do it Tawna’s Way.
Sprouting
I’ve read the research. I’ve heard people say it’s good. I just cannot bring myself to do it. It just … looks … weird. I”d never be able to eat after seeing it sprouted.
Project Gutenberg
I had to put this on here. I cannot read books online, but I thought someone else might appreciate this! This really is a great resource, if you can handle it! I just can’t.
Adding dye to food for fun
I’m sorry to the author of this post. I just cannot endorse this!!! Dyes are the bane of my existence and probably to many mothers out there. Have crazy kids? Take away the dye!!!
Turn your bad cake into something great
I would just not think to do this, but this is a great tip anyway! They look good!
Acne Solution
Hmm. Weird. But . Maybe?
Saving wet shoes
I always read to put newspaper in wet shoes. Has anyone actually tried this????? No. It does not work. Use washcloths. Works better.
Sugary Cereals
Blech. Sorry.
Making your own tea bags.
Interesting. Is it really worth the time? It looks hard. Does it make a mess? Does anyone else do this?
Are any of these things that you do and it really works for you?? Was one of these your favorite tip of the week?
And check out The Best of WFMW!!
More Works for Me Wednesday posts can be found at We Are That Family.

I just use a tea ball. It doesn’t seem like it would be any messier than making your own bags. *shrug*
I just can’t get behind oatmeal as weird, though! It’s a yummy whole food! I cook steel cut oats in the crockpot and it’s ready in the morning… Mmm, oaty goodness…
This was great. And I am the one who filled her own tea bags and it wasn’t hard or messy at all. Seriously, if you like drinking tea, making your own blends and filling your own tea bags is great and can make a great gift. It probably only took me about 10 mins to fill and seal about 50 tea bags.
Blessings,
Kim
I’m the mom who zaps all of the nutrients out of my veggies for the sake of convenience–haha. Thanks for the linky love, even if microwaving vegetables isn’t your thing
.
And you can’t tell me you didn’t love the Pac Man carrots! LOL
I do the sharpies on shoes trick, though I’ve only done it on my boys church shoes, not my own.
Most of these probably work really well for a lot of families…but not for ours.
Well, thanks for the link again. lol I am torn about my feelings for the microwave. But sometimes I have to compromise. And if the meat is going to be in the middle of something like chili, no one can tell. Though I do wonder about what has happened to the molecules while being nuked . . .
The powdered eggs work super great to put in cake mixes in a jar. And they’re pasteurized so no salmonella worries. It does make a good staple in food storage. In my opinion anyway.
I still love your blog. I’ll be back.
If you thought those Cellulite Stories were weird, wait until you see what one of our cellulite investigators is planning. She’s wondering if kombucha mushrooms would be an effective topical treatment for the dreaded blight and she offered to test her theory for our investigation. Now that’s creative!
hee, hee! Your post made me chuckle (since I’m the powdered eggs post). I agree that there are many odd or strange ideas floating around out there and I’ve often been surprised or amused by them in WFMW. As for powdered eggs – seriously – once you try them even just in cookie dough, you will love them! Of course, my waistline is just a little bigger probably because now there’s no holding me back since I’m not worried about salmonella anymore, lol.
For the acne post- Acids are great for the complexion. ACV has malic acid which is great for acne prone skin. It has anti fungal and antibacterial properties…natural and cheap helps also
Ha ha, I’m the freezer paper poster. Honestly, I never heard of it either and probably would have thought it was weird myself. But, having bought it, and used it (and then discovered all the things you can use it for–printed on the side of the box), I was pretty impressed! One of my favorite uses is tearing off a sheet to lay on the counter when I need to grate cheese. Maybe you’ll think that’s weird too–I don’t know, but it works for me
Be bold–buy it sometime! You might just be glad you did!
