Photos with Your Children
Posted By Melissa on March 17, 2010
I wanted to talk about pictures. Photographs. Been in one lately??? Do your children have pictures of you with each of them?? If you or your husband are gone for any amount of time, it is wonderful to have photos of each child with each parent! Before Roy deployed last year I knew that I wanted to get portraits taken of him with each of our children.
I wanted to get outdoor pictures done but we ran out of time and so we headed to Sears. I purchased the disc so I could print the pictures myself.
I took the pictures and cropped them into squares and printed them as 10×10′s and framed them. I gave each child their own.
For awhile, each child found a special place for his picture, but eventually they ended up in the living room where they could be seen each day. The little girls especially loved to talk to HER daddy.
I know that having this picture really helped Leah to recognize Roy when he got home from deployment.
We do family portraits about every 18 months or so. I think it’s important! I’m usually the one behind the camera, so I don’t have many snapshots of myself with the kids. I need to change that.
I even got one of us together. It sat in our bedroom and reminded me of our love, and his commitment to our family, even while he was on the other side of the world.
How about you? Have you taken a family portrait recently? Does your husband travel? Take some pictures!!!

I’ve been trying to get ours done for months. Looks like we will be headed to Sears or Walmart or such soon……
Just ask Kristen and she’ll confirm that I am a pictureholic. I cannot get enough. Life passes to quickly and we never know when it will be our last day together, so I snap every chance I get. Soon I’ll start scrapbooking again and placing all the treasured memories in albums. I want to leave my kids lots of wonderful memories through pictures. I don’t have have but a handful pictures of my childhood. Most are of my yearly school picture, other than that I depend on memory to walk back in time.
I don’t ever do studio pictures, but i’m always taking pictures of my girls and when we go on vacations or trips when we’re all together we take family shots. I like how relaxed and personal they are. My computer is loaded with pictures…now I just need to print them!
Your family is beautiful! What a PERFECT idea to do! It looks like you have a good, solid family and that is a treasure. I was also home schooled growing up through high school! It’s the best thing my parents could have done for me so way to go.
Also, I have a favor to ask…
I’m trying to win a party contest and would love your help! Would you go here:

I have a tip, but I”m going to have to post it later when I get home from errands…excited to be a part of this. Have a great day
Hi Melissa, my name is Carissa, we met up at Amy’s house in Sd. I hope you remember me. I would really like to talk to you, it is kind of important. I know I had spoken with you about homeschooling my son before and I have some questions I was hoping you might be able to help me with…i’m sorry for posting here, I didn’t know any other way to contact you.
Great tip! I think its true what you said – the photo did help your little girl recognize her daddy!
I LOVE the picture idea! I think family photos tend to be one of those things we never quite get around to and they really should be a priority.
We get snapshots here and there…more of Kev with the kids than me. Usually they are with one or two kids, not all of them. We have done whole family pics for our Christmas card at times, but not every year. Our last professional family portrait was when I was pregnant with Magdalyn and she will be 8 in August. I really need to schedule for us to do that again!
